การใช้ that ในประโยค Adjective Clause

“that” ซึ่งเป็น Relative Pronoun จะนำมาใช้ขึ้นต้นประโยค Adjective Clause ได้ ก็ต่อเมื่อ หน้าคำนามที่เป็น Antecedent นั้นมีลักษณะดังต่อไปนี้คือ

1)มีคุณศัพท์ขั้นสูงสุด (Superlative Degree) ประกอบอยู่ข้างหน้า เช่น
He is the most patient man that I have ever seen.
เขาเป็นคนที่มีความอดทนมากที่สุดที่ผมเคยเห็นมา

(ใช้ that ขึ้นต้นประโยค Adjective Clause ได้เพราะหน้า man ซึ่งเป็นคำ Antecedent มีคุณศัพท์ขั้นสูงสุดคือ the most patient ประกอบอยู่ข้างหน้า)

ประโยคต่อไปนี้โดยเหตุผลเดียวกัน…………………

She is the best student that I have ever seen.

หล่อนเป็นนักศึกษาที่ดีที่สุดที่ผมเคยเห็นมา

2) มีเลขนับลำดับที่ (Ordinal Number) ประกอบอยู่ข้างหน้า เช่น
China is the first country that I am going to visit.

จีนเป็นประเทศแรกที่ผมจะไปเที่ยว

ใช้ that นำหน้าประโยค Adjective Clause ได้เพราะหน้า Antecedent (คือ Country) มีเลขนับลำดับที่คือ first ประกอบอยู่ข้างหน้า)

ประโยคต่อไปนี้โดยเหตุผลเดียวกัน……………
Mr.Brown is the second man that we have to go to see.
มร. บราวน์คือชายคนที่ 2 ที่เราจะไปพบ

She is the third wife that he married to.
หล่อนคือภรรยาคนที่ 3 ที่เขาจะแต่งงานด้วย

3) มีคุณศัพท์บอกปริมาณ (Quantitative Adjective) ประกอบอยู่ข้างหน้า เช่น
“Money” is only thing that she needs.
“เงิน” คือสิ่งเดียวที่หล่อนต้องการ

ใช้ that ขึ้นต้นประโยค Adjective Clause ได้ เพราะหน้า thing มีคุณศัพท์บอกปริมาณคือ only ประกอบอยู่ข้างหน้า)

ประโยคต่อไปนี้โดยเหตุผลเดียวกัน………….
I have few books that I can share her.
ผมมีหนังสืออยู่ 2-3 เล่มที่ผมจะแบ่งให้เธอได้
He has many plans that he offers to us.
เขามีโครงการหลายอย่างที่เขาจะเสนอต่อเรา

They are all merchandises that we export.

มันเป็นสินค้าทั้งหมดที่เราส่งออกนอก

4) เมื่อหน้า that นั้นเป็นสรรพนามผสม (Compound Pronoun) ต่อไปนี้คือ
