หลายคนสงสัยว่า เรียนภาษาอังกฤษ ทำไมมันมีกฎยุบยิบ มากมายเหลือเกิน ทำไมเจ้าของภาษาถึงได้จำได้นะ..มันก็คงเหมือนเราที่เป็นเจ้าของภาษาไทยนั่นเองที่ฝรั่งเขาก็งงว่า ทำไมคนไทยถึงได้จดจำกฎเกณฑ์หยุมหยิมได้ ฝรั่งเขาคิดว่าภาษาไทยเป็นภาษาที่ยากมากภาษาหนึ่งเลย..เราคนไทยนี่เก่งนะ สามารถพูดภาษาไทยที่ยากๆได้ดังนั้น เรียนภาษาอังกฤษ ก็ไม่น่าจะเกินความสามารถของเราชาวไทยทุกคนหรอกจริงไหม
กริยานำ (Introducing Verb หรือ Reporting Verb) ในประโยค Indirect Command อาจเลือกใช้คำต่อไปนี้ (ตามความเหมาะสมของใจความในประโยคที่เปลี่ยนมาจากา Direct) คือ
Command (Commanded) = สั่ง (เฉียบขาด) เช่น ผู้มีอำนาจสั่งผู้อยู่ใต้บังคับบัญชา)
Order (Ordered) = สั่ง (ธรรมดา) เช่น ครูสั่งนักเรียน
Tell (told ) = บอก (ให้ทำการ) เช่น บอกให้ทำสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง คำนี้นิยมใช้มากที่สุดเพราะเป็นคำกลางๆ ไม่เฉียบขาดเกินไป และก็ไม่อ่อนเกินไป ในกรณีที่หาคำเหมาะสมไม่ได้ โปรดใช้คำนี้แทน
Warn, advise = เตือน, แนะนำ (ให้กระทำ) เช่น แนะนำ ตักเตือนให้กระทำสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่ง
ask (asked) = ขอร้อง (ให้กระทำ) โดยปกติจะใช้คำนี้เมื่อประโยคเดิมมีคำว่า please
beg (begged) = ขอร้อง (ให้กระทำ) เช่นเดียวกับ ask แต่ความหมายอ่อนน้อมกว่า ควรใช้ในกรณีที่ประโยคเดิมมีคำสุภาพในการขอร้องเช่นมีคำว่า Would you please หรือ Would you mind……..?
ตัวอย่าง เช่น
Direct : The officer said to the soldiers, “March better.”
นายทหารพูดกับทหารว่า, “เดินให้ดีขึ้นกว่านั้นหน่อย”
Indirect : The officer command the soldiers to march better.
นายทหารสั่งทหาร (ผู้อยู่ใต้อำนาจ) ให้เดินดีขึ้นกว่านั้นหน่อย
(ใช้ commanded แทน said เพราะเป็นการสั่งเฉียบขาด)
Direct : He said to me, “Play the piano, please”
เขาพูดกับผมว่า, “เล่นเปียโนให้ฟังหน่อยครับ”
Indirect : He asked me to play the piano. (Please ตัดทิ้งไป)
เขาขอร้องผมให้เล่นเปียโน
Direct : The teacher said, “Be quiet and listen to my words.”
ครูพูดว่า, “เงียบและฟังคำพูดของฉันหน่อย”
Indirect : The teacher ordered (urged) them to be quiet and listen to her words.
ครูสั่งพวกเขา (นักเรียน) ให้เงียบและฟังคำพูดของครูบ้าง
Direct : He said to my brother, “Don’t shut the door.”
เขาพูดกับน้องชายของผมว่า, “อย่าเปิดประตู”
Indirect : He told my brother not to shut the door.
เขาบอกน้องชายผมไม่ให้เปิดประตู
Direct : She said to her mistress, “Give me hundred baht.”
หล่อนพูดกับนายผู้หญิงของหล่อนว่า, “ให้เงินดิฉันสัก 100 บาทหน่อย”
Indirect : She begged her mistress to give her hundred baht.
หล่อนขอร้องนายผู้หญิงของหล่อนให้เงินเธอสัก 100 บาท
Direct : He said to me, “Do not drink much whisky.”
เขาพูดกับผมว่า, “อย่าดื่มเหล้ามาก”
Indirect : He warned me not to drink much whisky.
เขาเตือนผมว่าไม่ให้ดื่มเหล้ามาก
Change these sentences from Direct Speech to Indirect Speech
1. Mother said, “Don’t stay in bed for long.”
2. Buddism said, “Do good, not to do evil deeds.”
3. “Do not move anywhere”, the policeman commanded.
4. He said to me, “Give me some money.”
5. The robber said, “Put your hands up.”
