Thai scientists are expected to create vaccines to prevent hemorrhagic dengue fever within five years, says the Public Health Ministry.

Deputy Public Health Minister Surapong Suebwonglee said two kinds of vaccine were being developed at two Thai universities.

Mahidol University researchers were testing a vaccine on people and were another five or six years from completion. Chiang Mai University was conducting lab tests to produce another kind of vaccine and had yet to run tests. Tests at the first, second and third levels needed collaboration between researchers and pharmaceutical firms, especially transnational ones.
