She was just getting home from another dog eat dog day work when she was met at the front door by her mother. Her hother immediately said, “You can start getting your bags ready net week. You will need to inform your boss. Oh gosh, there is no much to do… I” “Mom, What are you taking about?” said Sumalee. “Please slow down and tell me what you mean.” Her mother tried to stifle her excitement, long enough to explain what was going on. She took a couple of deep breaths and then slowly started telling her daughter the story.
“Remember when we sent the information away last year for you to go to school? Well we just got the letter back today. You were accepted at a college on the East Coast. “They want you to start on your English as soon s possible” Said Mom, Sumalee could only stand there. She could not move. This information hit her like a ton of bricks. She was just getting used to the style in which she was living her life. At that very moment she had a feeling wash over her that her life would never be the same again. And with that, she hit the nail on the head.

เธอเพิ่งจะกลับถึงบ้านจากวันทำงานที่ยุ่งอีกวันหนึ่ง เมื่อเธอพบกับแม่ของเธอที่หน้าประตูหน้าบ้าน แม่ของเธอพูดว่า “ลูกเตรียมกระเป๋าเดินทางให้พร้อมสำหรับเดือนหน้าได้แล้ว ลูกจะต้องบอกกับเจ้านายของลูก โอ้! มีสิ่งที่จะต้องทำมากมายเหลือเกิน….แม่” “คุณแม่พูดถึงอะไร” สุมาลีกล่าว “กรุณาใจเย็นๆ และบอกหนูหน่อยว่าคุณแม่หมายถึงอะไร” แม่ของเธอพยายามควบคุมอารมณ์ความตื่นเต้นของเธอ นานพอที่จะอธิบายว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้น คุณแม่หายใจลึกๆ แล้วเริ่มเล่าเรื่องราวให้กับลูกสาวฟังอย่างช้า ๆ
“จำได้หรือเปล่าที่ลูกได้ส่งใบสมัครเรียนไปเมื่อปีที่แล้ว แล้วเราเพิ่งจะได้รับจดหมายตอบกลับวันนี้เอง มหาวิทยาลัยหนึ่งทางชายฝั่งตะวันออกได้ตอบรับลูกเข้าเรียนแล้ว พวกเขาต้องการให้ลูกเริ่มเรียนหลักสูตรภาษาอังกฤษ อย่างเร็วที่สุดเท่าที่จะเป็นไปได้” สุมาลีได้เพียงแต่ยืนตัวตรง เธอไม่สามารถเคลื่อนไหวใดๆทั้งสิ้น ข่าวนี้เข้าชนเธออย่างจัง เธอเกือบจะชินกับรูปแบบการดำเนินชีวิตของเธออยู่แล้วเชียว ณ เวลานั้นเธอมีความรู้สึกอย่างแรงกล้าว่า ชีวิตของเธอจะไม่เหมือนเดิมอีกแล้ว และสิ่งที่เธอคิดอยู่นั้นก็เป็นสิ่งที่ถูกต้อง
