กริยาในประโยค Active Voice บางคำ เมื่อเปลี่ยน Passive Voice จะไม่ใช้ By แต่จะใช้ in, at, with, etc. แทน ทั้งนี้ขึ้นอยู่กับลักษณะพิเศษของกริยาตัวนั้นๆ (เราต้องจดจำให้ได้) เช่น
Active : His essay interests me.
บทเรียงความของเขาทำให้ผมสนใจ
Passive : I am interested by his essay.
(อย่าใช้ : I am interested by his essay.)
ผมสนใจบทเรียงความของเขา
Active : My success pleases her much.
ความสำเร็จของผมทำให้หล่อนมีความยินดีมาก
Passive : She is much pleased at my success.
(อย่าใช้ : she is much pleased by my success.)
หล่อนมีความยินดีมากกับความสำเร็จของผม
Active : Snow Covered the mountain.
หิมะปกคลุมภูเขา
Passive : The mountain was covered with snow.
(อย่าใช้ : The mountain we covered by snow.)
ภูเขาถูกปกคลุมไปด้วยหิมะ
Active : The fire killed four boys.
ไฟได้ฆ่าชีวิตเด็ก 4 คนเสียแล้ว
Passive : Four boys were killed in the fire.
(อย่าใช้ : Four boys were killed by the fire.)
เด็กทั้ง 4 คนถูกฆ่าตายในกองเพลิง
