1) เลข 0 ถ้าใช้ในความหมายทางคณิตศาสตร์และอุณหภูมิ ให้อ่านว่า ZERO (ซีโร่) เช่น
It is eight degrees below zero.
2) เลข 0 ถ้านำมาใช้กับหมายเลขทางโทรศัพท์ (ให้อ่านว่า “โอ” (Oh) เช่น Dial 5301060 อ่านว่า five three oh one oh six oh)
3) คำ hundred, thousand, และ million ใช้เป็นรูปเอกพจน์ เมื่อมีจำนวนนับนำหน้า เพราะคำเหล่านี้ต่างก็ใช้เป็นคุณศัพท์ เช่น
three hundred students นักศึกษา 300 คน
(อย่าใช้ three hundred students)
five thousand people ประชาชน 5,000 คน
(อย่าใช้ five thousands people)
several million hens ไก่หลายล้านตัว
(อย่าใช้ several millions hens)
แต่ถ้าคำทั้ง 3 นี้นำมาใช้อย่างนามและตามด้วย of จะใช้เป็นรูปพหูพจน์เสมอ เช่น
I have reminded you of the case hundreds of times.
ผมได้เตือนคุณให้คิดถึงเรื่องนี้ตั้งหลายร้อยครั้งแล้วนะ
There are thousands of foreigners to visit here every years.
มีชาวต่างประเทศหลายพันคนมาเที่ยวที่นี่ทุกๆปี
Millions of people are unemployed each year.
แต่ละปี (มี) คนตกงานหลายล้านคน
4) เลขจำนวนนับตั้งแต่ 100 ขึ้นไป ให้อ่านโดยใช้ and มาเชื่อม ส่วนจำนวนหลักสิบตั้งแต่ 21 ถึง 99 ให้ใช้ Hyphen (-) มาคั่น เช่น
21 ฯลฯ = twenty-one, thirty-five, sixty-nine, ninety-nine
355 = three hundred and thirty-five
1,586 = one thousand five hundred and eighty-six etc.
5) เมื่อเลขทั้ง cardinal และ ordinal มาขยายนามพร้อมกันให้ใช้เลข ordinal นำหน้า cardinal เสมอ เช่น
The first three students are Americans.
นักศึกษา 3 คนแรกเป็นชาวอเมริกัน
The last two pictures are very ugly.
2 ภาพสุดท้ายนั้นน่าเกลียดมาก
6) หน้าหนังสือ (page) หรือบทที่ (lesson หรือ chapter) ในหนังสือให้อ่านแบบจำนวนนับธรรมดา เช่น
page 10 อ่านว่า page ten (ไม่ใช่ ten page)
page 125 อ่านว่า page one hundred and twenty-five
lesson 8 อ่านว่า lesson eight (ไม่ใช่ eight lesson)
chapter 20 อ่านว่า chapter twenty (ไม่ใช่ twenty chapter)
part III อ่านว่า part three (ไม่ใช่ three part)
หมายเหตุ แต่จะใช้ the first lesson, the fifth chapter, the second part ก็ได้
7) การอ่านเรื่องพระมหากษัตริย์, พระราชินี หรือพระสันตะปาปา ต้องอ่านอย่างลำดับที่ตลอดไป เช่น
King Rama V = King Rama the fifth พระราชาธิบดีที่5
Queen Elizabeth II = Queen Elizabeth the second พระราชินีเอลิซาเบทที่ 2
Pope Pius II = Pope Pius the second พระสันตะปาปาปุย ที่ 2
